Childrens Books

Some of the best stuff out there in books were written for children. Here are some of my favorites and some links to web sites that have information about them. I haven't included any super-popular books like the Harry Potter novels, although they are good. These are a little harder to find and are equally as good or, in some cases, even better. The first section is my favorite authors and the second some individual books.

Authors

John Bellairs - Off beat and often delightful novels of magic and wizardy usually, but not always, placed in our world. My personal favorites are "The Face in the Frost" and "The House With the Clock in its Walls."

Edward Eager - He didn't write a whole lot of books but they are all very good (make that very, very good). They are still in print, although not well known. Highly recommended.

Diana Wynne Jones - Prolific English writer with lots of books, all very different, and all excellent. Who else could write a story like "Dogsbody" about a star sent down to earth in the body of a dog. And she makes it work.

Tamora Pierce - A whole group of good solid stuff. Try the "The Song of the Lioness" series, "The Immortals" series, or "The Circle of Magic" series.
